Love, Lies and Lemon Pies is a book by Katy Cannon, first published in 2014 by Stripes Publishing.
This book is an easy read but with a deeply emotional storyline, exploring the struggles of a teenager who wants to hide her home life.
Lottie, the main character, has a troubled life. Her dad died a year ago, and her mom has taken to hoarding her own (and other peoples) forgotten items. Her house is full to the brim of magazines, empty food containers and charity shop finds. Lottie lost her friends and tried to cope with everything on her own, much to the concern of her school and Head of Year.
Eventually, Lottie was summoned to the school office, to discuss her friendships, or lack of them. While there, she meets Mac, the school 'bad boy'. Desperately trying to reassure the Head, she tells him she is joining the brand new school Bake Club.
At Bake Club, she discovers more and more about herself and Mac, who was apparently kicked out of another GCSE class, and told to take Food Technology. Surprisingly, Mac seems to love baking, and is better at it than he lets on. Lottie starts to bake again, for the first time since her dad died, and the two form a bond.
Bake Club is the only thing Lottie looks forward to...but everyone thinks she is perfect there. Desperately trying to hide her house from her fellow bakers and friends, her lies are continuously put under pressure.
What I loved about this book is the unique way Katy Cannon has included recipes at the start of every chapter: it's perfect for all of you who are enthusiastic in the kitchen!
To find out what happens to Lottie...indulge in Love, Lies and Lemon Pies.
